From the 11th century onwards, Notre-Dame du Bec Abbey was one of the most important spiritual and intellectual centres of Western Christianity.

Anyone considering Le Bec-Hellouin as a holiday destination can rent a holiday apartment there.

Culture and history

The Église Saint-André houses numerous works from the 17th century that are classified as historic monuments and originate from the former abbey church. The Musée L’Art Culinaire in Le Bec-Hellouin presents an exhibition of kitchen utensils and equipment.

The Abbaye du Bec-Hellouin offers a self-guided tour of the abbey.

Paths and walking routes

Since 2019, Le Bec-Hellouin has been a stop on the Chemin aux Anglais and the Chemin de Rouen. The Voie verte also connects the village with a signposted route: Le Bec-Hellouin can be the starting point or a stop on the Voie verte. The marked and secured Voie verte runs for 42 km from Évreux to Le Bec-Hellouin and ends in Pont-Authou.

The Voie verte can be reached on foot, by bicycle or on roller skates from the former SNCF railway station. The “Circuit Les Bénédictins” circular route follows a rural path between meadows to the RD39 in the direction of Monastère Sainte Françoise Romaine.

There is a picnic area for the Circuit de l’Abbaye du Bec Hellouin, 500 m from the circular route, at the Brionne leisure centre and in Le Bec-Hellouin.

Nature

The Zone humide du Bec extends across the municipalities of Pont-Authou and Le Bec-Hellouin. It comprises a mosaic of wetland habitats, including tree-lined banks along a watercourse, ponds, grazed wet meadows and tall-growing meadows known as megaphorbia.

With its dense and diverse flora typical of wetlands, the Zone humide du Bec provides a particularly important habitat for the conservation of wildlife.

Farm and products

The Ferme biologique du Bec-Hellouin sells fruit, vegetables, aromatic plants and processed products that are grown or produced by hand or using animal traction. The Ferme biologique du Bec-Hellouin can be visited during the opening hours of the farm shop.
