Hordain is bordered along its entire western side by the Escaut, forming a boundary between agricultural plains and industrial landscapes.

A nature reserve stretches along the banks of the Escaut in Hordain. Grey herons, owls and coots can be found there among the pollarded willows.

The best way to discover Hordain is considered to be the D630 between Iwuy and Bouchain towards Estrun, where a remarkable entrance to the village can be seen.

Brewing tradition

The La Choulette brewery dates back to the 19th century. Its Garde-Bière La Choulette is a culinary speciality of Hordain, and the brewery welcomes many beer enthusiasts.

Choulette Expérience offers an immersive and interactive tour. During a visit, visitors can discover and taste the brewery equipment, the Choulettorium and the products.

History

A Merovingian cemetery with 430 burials was discovered in Hordain. A funerary chapel was built in the Merovingian cemetery in the 7th century.

The small brewery museum is located in a former storage cellar. Restored historical brewing artefacts are exhibited there.

Events

The Harmonie d'Hordain originated as a fanfare founded in 1922. It performs in Hordain and the surrounding municipalities with concerts, parades, carnival events and serenades.

Hordain hosts an autumn concert by the Harmonie in October. An international youth football tournament takes place in Hordain around Whitsun.
