Culture and history

The Mairie-école in Albefeuille-Lagarde was designed by the Dutch government architect Hayo Hoekstra (1881–1960). Since 2016, Albefeuille-Lagarde has held the “Patrimoine du XXe siècle” label, which highlights the enhancement, appropriation and transmission of its architectural features.

After the devastating flooding of the Tarn in 1930, the village was subsequently completely rebuilt with donations from Holland. The church of Albefeuille was destroyed by fire in 1561 and rebuilt in the 17th century.

The washhouse of Albefeuille-Lagarde was renovated to preserve the area’s rural heritage. It has a picnic area and is located on the educational trail at Chemin du Lavoir.

Paths and landscape

PR1 – Chemin des deux églises is a there-and-back trail between the village church of Lagarde and the church in the hamlet of Albefeuille, known as Église du Tap. The route passes through an agricultural landscape in a fertile floodplain. The church of Le Tap, situated on a hill, offers a viewpoint.

PR2 – D’Albefeuille à La Paillole is a circular trail that begins at the church of Albefeuille.
