Culture

The Église Saint-Barthélémy has been classified as a French Monument historique since 16 June 1944. It was probably built during the Romanesque period in the 11th or 12th century; the apse and bell tower have survived from this period.

The Chapelle d'Hospitaliers de Saint-Jean-de-Jérusalem Saint-Pierre was built between 1170 and 1190. It consists of a single-nave body and a semicircular apse. Its portal features sculpted decoration on the capitals and a Christogram in its centre.

The Musée de la Mine de Vielle-Aure is a museum regarded as a unique site in the Pyrenees and as an important centre of French mineralogy.

Activities

The GR 10 leads westwards from Vielle-Aure via the Col de Portet and Lac de l'Oule before reaching the lakes of Aubert and Aumar. The Découverte de Vielle-Aure hiking trail partially follows the Chemin de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle.
