Tarbes: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Notre-Dame-de-la-Sède is the oldest monument in Tarbes. The church was built in the second half of the 12th century on the ruins of an earlier cathedral and is largely Romanesque. Its lantern tower is reminiscent of the churches of Lavedan, a Pyrenean valley.

Culture

The Musée Massey, located in the Jardin Massey, houses 17,000 objects relating to the history of the Hussars. The Hussar collection covers 400 years of history, from the 16th to the 20th century, and relates to thirty different countries. Since 13 November 2002, the Musée Massey has held the designation “Musée de France”.

The Musée de la Déportation et de la Résistance displays photographs, newspaper clippings, reproductions of posters and stamps relating to the history of the Second World War. The objects displayed in the cases are all originals brought back by former deportees and members of the Resistance.

The Maison natale du maréchal Foch, now the Musée Foch, was classified as a historic monument by decree of 30 January 1938. The 18th-century house was built in the Bigourdane style and houses a museum bearing the “Maison des Illustres” label. Ferdinand Foch lived there for the first twelve years of his life.

Market and Garden

The Marché de Marcadieu is located around and beneath the Baltard-style Marcadieu market hall. It is a meeting place for mountain dwellers and farmers from the foothills, as well as for Aragonese and Bigourdans.

The Jardin Massey covers 11 hectares and features a cloister with 40 arches and historiated capitals. The garden also includes a children's playground and a maze.
