Rabastens-de-Bigorre dates back to a bastide founded on 13 February 1306 by Seneschal Guillaume de Rabastens. Saint-Louis Church is a reconstruction from the first half of the 17th century, built on the foundations of a collegiate church documented since 1306. By decree of 6 June 2012, Saint-Louis Church was classified as a historic monument.
A ramp was designed on the forecourt of Saint-Louis Church for people with reduced mobility to facilitate access. In addition, the municipal library offers exhibitions, workshops and reading sessions for everyone.
Townscape
There are several fountains and monuments in the town. The Fontaine au Cabri was built in 1911 during the term of office of Ferdinand Lacoste. The Fontaine Napoléon III was inaugurated in 1863 and is a cast-iron sculpture created by Hubert Lavigne. The Monument aux Morts was created by Firmin Michelet in 1921.
Throughout Rabastens-de-Bigorre, wall inscriptions and advertisements from the 20th century can be seen. The Parc du Val d’Adour is designated as a cattle and sheep market.
Market
The seasonal market features stalls selling poultry, cheese and dairy products, cured meats, olives and dried fruit, horse meat, as well as fruit and vegetables.
