Compeyre lies on the southern slope of the Causse de Sauveterre and overlooks the Tarn Valley.

Culture
A special way to discover the village is Les messagers des Fleurines, a digital, self-guided tour through Compeyre. It starts at Compeyre Town Hall and takes place within the village. In addition, Course d’orientation à Compeyre is an orienteering course with seven stations through the centre of Compeyre.
The village can be explored independently on foot or, in summer, on a guided tour led by a local resident. In the medieval part of Compeyre, narrow and steep lanes shape the layout of the village.
History
The Esplanade de l’ancienne église offers panoramic views; the remains of the former church can also be seen there. The Église Saint-Vincent in Compeyre was partly rebuilt between 1856 and 1860 on the site of the former chapel of the Blue Penitents, which was dedicated to Saint Jerome.
Compeyre became a royal town and the seat of a bailliage in 1339. The Porte Royale du Valat can be seen in the village. A gateway from the former 17th-century hospital is also located in the village. Other visible historical features include a 35-metre-deep well carved into the rock.
Wine
Almost 200 Fleurines cellars, known as caves à fleurines, lie beneath the houses of Compeyre. Côtes de Millau wine is grown on the slopes of Compeyre and stored in the Fleurines cellars there. Côtes de Millau wines can be tasted locally in Compeyre as red, white or rosé wine.

Cueilleur de Sommets in Compeyre offers mountain hikes, trail running and sports coaching.
Getting There
From Millau to Compeyre, the recommended route follows the RD 809 and then the RD 547 towards Clermont-Ferrand.
