Rieux-De-Pelleport: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History
In the 1390 census of the County of Foix, the village is mentioned under the name “Rius de Pelaporc”. The Château de Pelleport is considered to date from the 16th century; an earlier fortification is already mentioned for 1390.
The ruins of the Château de Pelleport lie west of Rieux-de-Pelleport on a natural elevation; the remains of walls made of river pebbles and bricks have survived.
The Church of Sainte Marie Madeleine was completely rebuilt in the 19th century; its origins date back to the middle of the Middle Ages.
The Marian altar in the Church of Sainte-Madeleine is listed in the national inventory of cultural heritage. It is made of white marble with grey veining, framed by two small columns, and features a decoration consisting of two brown marble panels surrounded by a Gothic frame.
The village’s historical tradition of the “fête du cochon” included washing pig offal in the stream. Each family prepared sausages, hams, pâtés and other cured meats for the coming year.
