Culture

The Chapelle Sainte-Croix in Alzen has Romanesque origins, was set on fire by Protestants around 1624, rebuilt in the 18th century and restored in the 19th century. Its façades and roofs have been partially protected as Monuments historiques by a decree dated 11 December 1995.

The Lavoir des Paulis was built in the 19th century, used until the 1960s and rebuilt in 2000; the municipality fully restored it. It is one of the attractions along the discovery trail through Alzen.

Local Life

The Écomusée d’Alzen is a breeding farm for local animal breeds, including Casta cattle, Castillonnaise or Tarasconnaise sheep and Gascon pigs. It has a farm table serving farm produce as well as local and/or organic products. The Écomusée also offers workshops on making bread and cheese.

Walks

Les mystères d’Alzen is a walk that leads from the village school through the meadows, hamlets and forests of the Séronais. The easy walk is 6.3 kilometres long and takes 2 hours and 30 minutes, excluding the detours.

The Sentier pieds-nus de l’Arize is a playful, 400-metre-long barefoot trail through the forest along the Arize. It includes relaxation areas and creative activities such as clay pottery and land art. A shady, 15-minute walk along the river leads to the Sentier pieds-nus de l’Arize.

Hiking

The hiking loop La Chapelle Sainte Croix par les estives d’Alzen reaches the Estive des Fautils at 940 metres, the highest point of the route. It has an elevation gain of 300 metres and takes 2 hours and 45 minutes to walk, starting at the car park of the Mairie d’Alzen.
