The catchment area of the Chaumeil stream lies in the municipality of Lamazière-Basse and covers approximately 143 hectares. In terms of area, the Chaumeil basin makes up the largest part of the Natura 2000 site “Streams in the Neuvic Region” and, according to current knowledge, is home to a population of white-clawed crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes).
At 11 hectares, Étang de Montsour is the largest of the five ponds in the municipality of Lamazière-Basse. It is located in a wooded area and is home to carp and predatory fish. The Circuit des étangs trail provides access to the wildlife and plant life of the five ponds located in the forest at Viers, Montsour, les Ganes, le Grenouiller and la Trompette in Lamazière-Basse. The easy circular hike is 5.5 kilometres long, takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, and has a positive elevation gain of 70 metres. It is marked in blue and included in the French departmental hiking trail network, the PDIPR.

Culture
The Église Saint-Barthélémy in Lamazière-Basse has been protected as a Monument historique since 13 October 1971. Its construction dates back to the 12th century. It consists of a single-nave hall church with a flat-ended choir and a lambris-clad roof structure. A side chapel was added on the north side in the 15th century, followed by its southern counterpart in the 17th century; both chapels feature ribbed vaults. The west façade is crowned by a 19th-century bell-cote. A sundial is located on the exterior; the magnificent 17th-century pulpit and its associated communion rail are also noteworthy.
La Ferme de Lama’zière offers demonstrations of wool processing, wool workshops and an introduction to felting. By reservation, it also offers guided tours and walks with a leashed llama. In addition, La Ferme de Lama’zière offers hikes with at least two llamas.
