Culture and history
A prominent site in Alleyrat is the Eglise Saint-Pierre. It has been listed as a protected historic monument by an inscription order dated 27 August 1975. The church has a single-nave Romanesque nave; to the east, it ends in a pentagonal apse with a half-dome vault.
The village’s springs and washhouses also preserve tangible traces of everyday life in the past. The village spring of Alleyrat is located in the centre of the village, on the former Couderc, the old village square. It was a meeting place where the village community settled common matters and collected water. The spring known as La fontaine dite Saint-Pierre was probably a processional spring.
The large washing days at the Lavoir de Ceppe took place twice a year. At the same time, it was a place for social exchange known as the “women’s café”.
Nature and trails
The area of the municipality of Alleyrat belongs to the Parc naturel régional de Millevaches en Limousin in the Corrèze département for 15 years from the publication of the decree.
The “Mystèrieuses fontaines” route begins in the centre of Alleyrat and runs along the foothills of the Plateau de Millevaches. The trail is easy, 5.0 kilometres long and takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes; it is also described as a family-friendly walking route. The route leads to the Fontaine-abreuvoir d'Enclisse and the Croix dite Saint-Jean. There, the trail meets the double-sided cross in the folk style, one side of which depicts Christ on the cross and the other of which probably shows an Ecce Homo.
