Argelès-Plage: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Culture and History

The Mémorial du Camp presents the history of the former camp with interactive scenography, audiovisual accounts from eyewitnesses, and archival documents. Argelès Beach was designated at short notice as a reception area, which in fact became an internment camp.

Beach

Swimming, water sports, and beach games are possible at Plage Centre. During the summer season, there are supervised bathing areas there. Plage Centre also offers a large area of fine sand suitable for relaxation and beach activities. A pedestrian promenade and several car parks are also located nearby; shops and restaurants are close by.

Nature

Plage Nord (Marenda) is surrounded by dunes that are important to the local ecosystem. The Mas Larrieu nature reserve is located nearby at the mouth of the Tech River and serves as a refuge for numerous animal and plant species. The guided nature walk in Mas Larrieu starts at Plage Nord and covers 2.6 km.

Activities and Trails

Within the host municipality’s area, the coastal path includes a 3 km section from Racou to Plage de l’Ouille. It takes around 45 minutes and is suitable for occasional walkers and children.

Windsurfing and light sailing boats are permitted in part of the area at Plage Nord (Marenda). Club de Plage Emeraude offers pedal boats with slides, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing, funboarding, and wingfoiling. There is a large free car park with an unpaved surface for access to Plage Nord (Marenda).
