Culture and craftsmanship
The École Nationale d’Osiériculture et de Vannerie has been training pupils in Fayl-Billot since 1905; interns were also added later. More than 200 people receive training there every year.
The Espace Saint Antoine houses a permanent exhibition of traditional and contemporary pieces associated with the local basketry school. The Maison de la Vannerie is also dedicated to this craft.
From May to October, individual visitors can take part in guided tours with commentary by prior reservation, subject to availability. At the Maison de la Vannerie, visitors can also take part in a weaving course led by a basket maker or attend a demonstration by a craftsman.
Nature
The Bois Banal offers paths through a natural area whose flora and fauna change with the seasons. The caves in the Bois Banal were carved directly into a geological rock layer by people in the 17th century. They lie along a path that became a romantic promenade.
At the edge of the Bois Banal, near the schools and near the boules court, there is a multisport field as well as picnic tables and benches for spending time outdoors.
Churches and history
The Vieille église de Fayl-Billot preserves the polygonal apse, choir and side chapels of a former priory church that was partially destroyed in 1874.
The present-day Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité church in Fayl-Billot was built between 1865 and 1870 in the 19th-century neo-Gothic style.
Events
The Festival de la vannerie is an annual festive and cultural event organised to promote basketry in Fayl-Billot.
The Fête de la Saint Antoine is an annual event associated with the patron saint of basket makers.
