History and Culture

The Donjon of Chaumont is the only surviving part of the castle of the Lords of Chaumont, as well as a 19-metre-high medieval tower with four levels. It can be visited on request through the Médiévalys association. The Basilique Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Chaumont preserves the nave from its first construction phase in the early 13th century.

Art and Museums

The Musée de la Crèche is an annex of the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire and houses an exceptional collection of historic nativity scenes. The Musée d'art et d'histoire de Chaumont has been recognised as a Musée de France since 17 September 2003. The Chapelle des Jésuites is an exhibition venue for contemporary art and hosts two to three exhibitions per year. Le Signe – Centre national du graphisme in Chaumont is dedicated to the production, communication and promotion of graphic design.

Paths and Everyday Life in the Town

The Boucle des Tanneries is a 2.6-kilometre walking route that leaves Chaumont via a shady path leading downhill towards the Suize valley. The Circuit des tourelles is a circular town-centre walk taking in more than 60 turrets built between the 16th and 17th centuries; more than 40 of them are still visible from the streets. A food market takes place in the Halles of Chaumont on Saturday mornings.
