Culture and History
The Church of Saint-Nicolas in Fontaine-Mâcon was dependent on the Abbey of Saint-Denis. Its masonry was extensively restored; the stone surfaces were repaired and bonded with a roughened lime plaster.
The Roman road from Pont-sur-Seine to Sens ran through the area of Fontaine-Mâcon and was known by the names Ruelle Caillot and Voie Creuse. In the past, Fontaine-Mâcon monitored a ford across the Seine located three kilometres downstream from Nogent-sur-Seine.
