The centre of Louestault dates back several centuries: the earliest documentary references date from the 12th century. In the older houses, timber framing and walls built from rubble stone may indicate construction dates ranging from the 16th century to the first half of the 19th century. The house known as “Maison dite de la Salle” preserves decorative elements from the 16th century, while La Rocheboiterie was built in the 18th century in the southern part of the town centre as the residence of a notable.

Culture and History
The Church of Saint George was built in the 11th and 15th centuries. In front of its façade there is still an external wooden gallery known as the “Caquetoire”. The church also has a ceramic floor and frescoes restored by local craftsmen. It is opened on request; the keys are available from the Mairie annexe de Louestault at Rue de l’église, 37370 Louestault.
The Château de Fontenailles is located about 1 km south of the centre of Louestault. A remnant of a bastion and a large round tower survive from the original castle, built in the 14th century, surrounded by the water of the moats. The chapel of the Château de Fontenailles was built around 1888, replacing a chapel that had already existed in the 17th century, and is dedicated to Sainte Marguerite.
Hiking and Cycling
The Promenade autour de Louestault bears the quality label of the Fédération Française de Randonnée Pédestre. Along it, hikers can discover the Dême River. If they leave the trail, they can admire the Château de Fontenailles.
The “De la Dême au Long” cycling loop passes through Louestault. It is an easy 29 km route with a duration of around three hours. It is signposted with green and white signs as well as the number 33.
The wash house of Louestault is highlighted in the cycling route description as a notable feature of the town. The route description mentions the playgrounds at La Dindassière as a picnic opportunity; it also mentions the Pré Marié area near the Barry River.
