Nature experiences for different seasons are close together in Syötekylä: explore the Vattukuru gorge on a nature trail, enjoy snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in winter, and find mountain biking routes around the area. Your choice of holiday home can also shape your stay – from a small log cabin by the water to a spacious family holiday home.

Vattukuru and the landscape around Syötekylä

The 2.1-kilometre Vattukuru nature trail runs through a gorge formed by the Ice Age. There is a lean-to shelter at the bottom of the gorge where you can make a fire and grill sausages. If you plan to make a fire there, check that the fire pit is currently available before your visit.

The nearby Syöte National Park offers another facet of the landscape. Its special features include fell forests, slope bogs, springs and streams; it also has old-growth forests. There are small ponds in the Syötekylä holiday home area, too. This gives you a choice of different natural settings, from the striking gorge to the surrounding forests and waters.

Trails and winter activities

Vattukuru is also accessible by snowshoe in winter. You can walk along the packed trail in ordinary winter footwear – giving you two different ways to get around the gorge in winter. Cross-country ski trails also run near the holiday home area.

In Syötekylä itself, walking and cycling paths have also been built separately from the road. This is dedicated infrastructure for getting around on foot and by bike, while the ski trails are a seasonal winter option. If cross-country skiing is part of your plans, it is worth checking the current local conditions.

Mountain biking routes with different profiles

The nearby Iso-Syöte Bike Park is described as having 13 varied trails for 2026. The range extends from beginner-friendly flow trails to more technically challenging red trails. You can rent bikes and equipment on site, including full-face helmets, knee pads and chest protectors; rental offerings may change.

The Syöteen kierros offers a different choice of tour. It is one of the easier routes in the area and is suitable for both experienced and less experienced riders. The route goes around Iso-Syöte, across bogs to Pystkynharju and from there down into Syöte National Park. The Harjujen kierros, by contrast, is an approximately 25-kilometre mountain biking route through varied terrain.

You can reach the Rytivaaran kierros from Syötekylä via a 16-kilometre forest road that is partly unpaved. This describes the access route; road and trail conditions can change, so it is a good idea to check them before setting off. The tours therefore differ not only in their scenery, but also in the directions you need to reach them.

A holiday home as a base

The holiday home area offers spacious family holiday homes with three to four bedrooms. There are also small log cabins by the water. Many holiday homes include a boat, but amenities can vary from one property to another. So check the details for the individual holiday home when choosing; specific offerings may also change.

The driving distance from Syötekylä to the centre of Iso-Syöte is seven kilometres, and the centre of Pikku-Syöte is the same distance away. This equal distance gives you a clear reference point when weighing up the location of your holiday home and trips to the two centres. Whether you want to focus on the gorge, winter ski trails or mountain biking routes can also inform your choice of accommodation.
