Peränne brings together distinctive ridges, bodies of water and traditional cross-country ski trails. The village is part of the nationally classified Ähtärinreitti cultural landscape. Among Peränne’s valuable ridge landscapes, Punkaharju is the best known; the ridge continues across the strait as Vuohisaari. Different landscapes meet here, offering a guide to the area’s natural and outdoor highlights as you plan your trip.

Ridges, Bodies of Water and Nature Trails

Water also helps define Peränne. Lake Perännejärvi is part of the Kokemäenjoki river system, which connects the area all the way to Pori. Peränne’s many bodies of water offer opportunities for fishing. Nature walks are another activity the area makes possible, without requiring a specific marked trail. When planning your trip, you can therefore weigh up whether to focus on the landscape and walking, fishing opportunities or the ski trails.

Cross-Country Skiing in Peränne: Trails and Directions

The Peränne village association maintains traditional cross-country ski trails. When there is enough snow, the trail network is about 14 kilometres long. Trail operations depend on snow conditions, so check the latest updates before setting out. You can access the trails near the junction of Peränteentie and Vuorimäentie, as well as by the grain dryer. Parking is available, among other places, at the village hall and at the Peränne rest area. Parking arrangements may change, so it is a good idea to check for current information before travelling.

Shelters and Places by the Water

The Vuohisaari shelter is located by Kirkkosalmi. The Halkoniemi shelter is on the shore of Lake Peränne; it is accessible by car and has parking. Another shelter is in Jauhojärvi, in the forested area of Roisionkallio. Each named location has its own setting: Kirkkosalmi, the lakeshore and the wooded terrain each offer a distinct landscape.

Jussilanhiekka Beach is on Peränteentie, near the grain dryer. It has changing cabins and an outdoor toilet. A boat ramp in Halkoniemi has also been repaired, providing access for boating and fishing trips. Facilities and operating conditions may change; if needed, check the latest information before your visit.

Village Life and Events

The village association organises outings, trolling competitions and flea market events. An information board installed at the village hall in 2025 provides visitors with information about village events. The village hall itself is used for events, hobbies and celebrations, and can also be rented by people from outside the village. If you are planning to rent it, check availability before your trip. If you plan to attend an event, it is worth taking the specific dates into account.
