Kosula between Suvasvesi and Juojärvi

Kosula is part of Etelä-Tuusniemi, an isthmus between Suvasvesi and Juojärvi. This location gives the village a clear connection to two lakes. At the same time, Kojanlahti is characterised by gravel ridges and sandy beaches, and has a long history of agriculture and forestry. Kojanlahti recreational harbour is in Kosula at Kojanlahdentie 865, on Juojärvi west of Jäätsalo. A shipping channel with a depth of 1.8 metres is nearby. Villa Rysseli and village life

Villa Rysseli is in the vicinity of Kosula, 200 metres from the harbour. The former village school has been maintained and renovated by the village community. It houses an art sales exhibition and a summer café. On summer weekends, the café serves coffee as well as homemade savoury and sweet pastries. Villa Rysseli also has a children’s playground with a swing, sandbox and climbing frame. The school beach at Villa Rysseli can be reached via the Kojanlahti pier. Since autumn 2015, it has served year-round as a shared village centre for several villages. At Kojanlahti School, residents of South Tuusniemi take part in adult education groups, village activities and sports; events and private celebrations are also held there.

Hiking trails and discoveries nearby

There are signposted hiking trails in the Kosula area. Seinävuori Rotkolaakso, an impressive ravine, is also nearby. Another notable landmark is Rosvokivi, a large erratic boulder whose name means “Robber Stone”. It stands in the middle of the forest on Luostaritie, near the village of Kosula. The area also includes fish-rich rapids and islands associated with historical stories. These places and landscapes offer a variety of options for excursions: from trails in the village area to a ravine and a forest boulder, as well as waterways and islands. A cruise is suggested as a way to explore the clear waters.

Kosula as a base

The village is on the main road towards Heinävesi. Kosula has good connections to the shores of Juojärvi and Suvasvesi. Palokki and the Lintula and Valamo monasteries are also accessible from Kosula.
