Kyyjärvi offers a range of options for a holiday: church history and remembrance, collections about everyday life in the past, cycling routes and experiences by the water. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether cultural history, cycling, or swimming and outdoor activities should be the main focus of your stay.

Church, Bell Tower and Remembrance

The church of Kyyjärvi was consecrated on 12 December 1953. The separate bell tower was completed in 1954. These two dates place the construction history in context: the church was consecrated before the tower was completed.

The Kyyjärvi Heroes’ Cemetery offers another perspective on the area’s history. It is the burial place of 73 soldiers who fell in the Winter War and the Continuation War. The church and cemetery therefore represent different historical themes: the consecration and bell tower on the one hand, and remembrance of those who fell in both wars on the other.

Collections About Everyday Life in the Past

Honkalehdon Kievari was once a post inn. Items collected there include old tools, kitchen utensils, children’s toys and handicrafts. The collection brings together different aspects of everyday life—from work and the home to childhood items and handicrafts.

The Kyyjärvi Local Heritage Museum houses a collection of old agricultural and hunting items. This gives it a different focus from the collection at Honkalehdon Kievari: agriculture and hunting take centre stage here. Visits to the Kyyjärvi Local Heritage Museum are by appointment; please arrange your visit in advance.

Compare Cycling Routes and Trails

The surface is one clear difference between the cycling routes: the Kyyjärvi Cycling Route runs partly along gravel roads, while the Tuliharju Cycling Route is paved. When choosing a route for your excursions, you can use this information to decide which surface you prefer.

The Harsunkangas–Oikari multi-use trail network connects the landscapes of Harsunkangas and Oikari in Kyyjärvi. It is about 10 kilometres long in each direction. This distance helps you gauge the trail’s length; it is a different planning detail from the surface of the two cycling routes.

Harbour, Swimming Beach and Activities

Kyyjärvi Marina has 22 berths for small boats. Larger boats can also be launched using the slipway. Kallioranta offers a different way to enjoy the water: the beach at Kyyjärvi Camping is a public swimming beach.

For a variety of activities, there is also an activity park near the Kyyjärvi school centre. It offers opportunities for people of all ages to get active; the pavilion makes a good place to rest when it rains. For families who like to include different interests in their daily plans, this is another way to add some activity to their stay.

Whether you plan to spend time exploring local history, choose a cycling route or make the swimming beach the centrepiece of your stay, these different options can help shape your experience.
