Stepanov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the Štěpánov locality of the municipality of Bezděkov stands Štěpánov Castle, a late Baroque, two-winged, single-storey building with a small turret on a triangular ground plan. It was built in the second half of the 18th century on the site of an earlier fortress; in 1858, an additional storey was added to both wings of the western façade.

Nature and Landscape

The area around Bezděkov, including the Štěpánov locality, lies within the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area. West of Štěpánov, part of the marl slope lies in Zone I. The wooded slopes above the Cerhovka to the west and east of Štěpánov, as well as the extensions of forested areas reaching into the cadastral territory, lie in Zone II of the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area.

The Mokřadlo Nature Reserve is located near the municipalities of Bezděkov, Podmoklany and Sloupno in the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area. It occupies the site of a former pond on the Cerhovka stream.

Castle and Local Details

A small 18th-century chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary stands by Štěpánov Castle. The Štěpánov locality of the municipality of Bezděkov also has a small stone cross and a niche chapel.

The renovated Štěpánov Castle can be used for celebrations, corporate events and other social events.

Paths and Connections

A yellow-marked hiking trail branches off at Štěpánov Castle. It comes from the direction of Slatiňany, leads to Hařilova Lhotka and ends in Bílek. About half of the paved path ran through the forest.

Bus connections to Štěpánov were available from Chotěboř and Ždírec nad Doubravou.
