Podlesi: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Podlesí is a small settlement with a history dating back to the Middle Ages. The settlement of Vogelsang has existed since the Middle Ages and has been called Podlesí since 1947. It is situated on the slope of Huťské hory above the Losenice Valley; however, the name Podlesí was never commonly used.

History and Cultural Heritage

The Chapel of St. Barbara is located in the northern part of a former farmyard that forms the heart of the small settlement of Podlesí. It was built under the glassmaker Florián Gerl around the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries and is freely accessible.

The settlement of Podlesí and the abandoned glassworks form a Category UAN I archaeological area and are considered an important archaeological site. The Podlesí glassworks is documented by name as existing since 1580 and operated intermittently until the 1890s.

The „Frauenau, Glass Museum“ is located in the wider regional surroundings of Podlesí.

Paths and Walks

The Golden Trail led from Losenice to what later became Vogelsang, where it ascended towards Zhůří along branching routes. During walks around Vogelsang, you may come across several sections of the original Golden Trail and the Golden Road from Kašperské Hory.

Nature and Surroundings

Below the path near Podlesí stands a distinctive large-leaved lime tree that is more than 30 metres tall and has a trunk circumference of almost seven metres. The memorial trees near Podlesí and Vogelsang belong to Šumava National Park. Another group of memorial lime trees grows near Podlesí in two rows close to a water reservoir.

Mount Huťská hora is located in the immediate vicinity of Podlesí. The mountains Popelná hora, Sokol (Antýgl) and Snĕžne jámy are also located around Podlesí.
