Dolní Černá Studnice has a rather mountainous character on the slopes of the Černostudniční hřeben ridge. The Žernovník stream rises here, flows through Huť and Bratříkov, and joins the Jizera at Železný Brod.

Nature and Trails

From Dolní Černá Studnice, an approximately 2 km walk leads to Horní Černá Studnice, where there is a lookout tower at the summit. The Černá Studnice lookout tower is 26 metres high and can be reached via 91 steps. A high-altitude hiking trail also leads to the “Berany” trail junction.

The summit of Černá Studnice can be reached directly by car or bicycle; the access road leads via Dolní Černá Studnice. When the Černá Studnice lookout tower is closed, a rock 50 metres away offers a partial view. This rock was already prepared as a viewpoint in 1885.

History and Culture

An archaeological mining and processing area dating from the 6th millennium BC was discovered in Dolní Černá Studnice. It is considered one of the oldest surviving landscape remnants of mining in Central and Western Europe.

The source of the Žernovník was once surrounded by beech trees whose trunks were covered with votive images. At the foot of Černostudniční kopec, there was probably an inn for travellers as early as the end of the 16th century. The historic inn hosted dances, wedding celebrations and school-leaving reunions in the 1960s; however, it burned down and was not rebuilt.
