Branka: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Branka is the first settlement on the Czech side through which the Mže River flows. In the centre of the settlement, the river flows into the eight-hectare Olšový pond. There is a small beach on its northern shore, which is also suitable for swimming with small children; fishing is permitted in Olšový pond.

Nature and Water

In the wooded valley between Branka and Horní Výšina, the Mže crosses stone cascades and forms several waterfalls; the best known is called Branka. The waterfalls on the Mže near Branka are considered to be the only waterfalls in the Český les.

Things to Do

The Branka educational and cycling route is a 17-kilometre circular trail with 11 stops; its start and finish are in Branka. The route is suitable for hikers, cyclists and cross-country skiers.

Culture and History

Branka has a consecrated chapel serving the local Orthodox inhabitants. The Orthodox Chapel of the Dormition of the Mother of God, “Kaple Zesnutí přesvaté Bohorodice”, is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God.

Branka was first mentioned in writing in 1663, and the current name has been used since 1945. The button factory owned by the Adler family processed mother-of-pearl into buttons.

Getting There

Branka has a bus stop called “Halže, Branka”. There is a direct bus connection from Tachov with a journey time of 30 minutes.
