Tremithousa is characterised by a distinctive elevation profile and religious sites with a history dating back to the mid-20th century. The church in the village centre, other churches in the surrounding area and recurring commemorative days offer different ways to explore the area. Those planning a trip with landscape and local traditions in mind will find some useful points of reference here.

Elevation and Annual Rainfall

Tremithousa lies at an average elevation of 270 metres above sea level. The land generally slopes from northeast to southwest, ranging in elevation from 150 to 500 metres. Average annual rainfall is about 520 millimetres. Together, these figures give an indication of the village’s setting. Elevation can be a first consideration when choosing a holiday rental; if a specific location matters to your plans, also compare the exact address of each listing.

Churches in the Village Centre and Surrounding Area

The new church of Saints Riginos and Orestis stands in the centre of Tremithousa. Construction began in 1963; it was completed and consecrated in 1965. A liturgy is held in this church once or twice a month. If you would like to plan your stay around one of these services, check the latest information in advance.

The church of Agios Georgios lies southwest of Tremithousa. The nearby St George’s Park serves as a venue in summer for events organised by the community council. The park’s seasonal use offers a different point of reference in time from the liturgies held in the church. When planning, it is worth treating the church, the park and any events as separate places to visit.

Commemorative Days and Processions

The feast calendar includes two commemorative days with processions. The feast day of Saint George is celebrated on 23 April, when his icon is carried in procession. The joint feast day of Saints Riginos and Orestis falls on 20 August. A procession is also held on this occasion, when their icon is carried. These details describe recurring religious celebrations. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these dates, check the latest celebration dates in advance.

Other Churches and Historical Traces

The former church of Saints Riginos and Orestis stood east of Tremithousa, outside the village and near a river. It collapsed in the 1953 earthquake. This historic site is distinct from the new church in the village centre, which was completed and consecrated later.

The small church of Agia Sofia lies west of Tremithousa, outside the village and surrounded by fields. A liturgy is held there three or four times a year. In addition, a short distance outside the village, next to the remains of an older church, there is a simple iconostasis. These different sites can be considered in terms of their locations and their connection to religious history. If you would like to include several in your trip plans, you can check their locations and service dates separately, then choose a holiday rental based on which aspects of your stay matter most.
