Drymou invites you to discover its landscape and local history from different perspectives. Nature’s Trail runs alongside plant life and the Korkotas River to an old well; churches and historical traditions add to the picture. The village is also shaped by two steep slopes and a narrow valley. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider nature, architectural history and landscape as distinct points of interest.

Nature’s Trail: Plants, River and Well

The 700-metre-long Nature’s Trail in Drymou begins at the Archangel Michael Chapel and ends at the old well near Kampoura. Its length makes it a short, clearly defined route with a named start and finish. Along the trail, you’ll encounter flora and fauna; the plants include oaks, cyclamens, kermes oaks, carob trees and turpentine trees. A wooden bridge crosses the Korkotas River and continues to the old well.

Slopes and Valley Shape the Village

Drymou stretches across two steep slopes separated by a narrow valley. This describes the village as a whole and differs from Nature’s Trail, which is a single route with a named start and finish. For a sense of what your stay might involve, these two scales sit side by side: the shape of the village and a specific trail that you can include as a separate activity.

Churches and Chapels

The Church of Chrysosotiros is Drymou’s main church and is located in the centre of the community. It measures 30 m × 20 m, and its bell tower was built in 1930. These are two distinct architectural details: the dimensions of the church building and the year the tower was built. The chapels also have different associations: Agios Georgios is in the community, while Archangel Michael is at the start of Nature’s Trail. This makes it easy to distinguish the religious sites by their roles.

Traditions and Former Renown

The Karamanon Cave is associated with Nature’s Trail. According to local tradition, during the Turkish occupation it served as a hiding place for Turkish soldiers who had defected. This cave story brings a historical account into focus alongside the natural setting. Drymou was also once known for its silk products and textiles. This former renown adds another cultural and historical dimension to the village’s history, alongside its churches and cave tradition.

Choose the Right Base for Your Trip

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can start by considering which of these perspectives you want to shape your stay. Focusing on the nature trail raises different planning questions than an interest in church architecture or local history. The trail’s start and finish, as well as the central Church of Chrysosotiros, provide specific reference points for your own itinerary. Then compare the location of a particular property with the places you want to visit, rather than assuming a general recommendation applies to all of Drymou.
