Ostrovica: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

On the Gradina hill in Ostrovica, the remains of a prehistoric Liburnian settlement are situated on a plateau. The rural settlement unit with the building complex of Kvarcina Fort, as well as the remains of traditional buildings in Bačkulići, is also part of the local landscape.

Culture and History

The medieval Ostrovica Fortress stood on Mačkov kamen. Its strategic location made it possible to control the routes connecting the areas of Zadar and Nin with Knin and Skradin. Several branches of the Croatian noble Šubić family ruled Ostrovica Fortress for the longest period.

The town’s religious history includes two churches: the Church of St Luke in Ostrovica is an Orthodox church with a cemetery. The Church of St Anthony in Ostrovica served as a military chapel; soldiers’ graves, including the graves of foreigners, were found around it. The Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua was celebrated repeatedly in this church on 13 June.

Traditional songs and dances are preserved in the wider area of Lišane Ostrovičke, including the church folk singing tradition known as “Lišanska misa”. The instruments cvitare and dipla are also played; the tradition continues at competitions and ethnographic events.

The archaeological sites of Asseria and Burnum are located in the wider regional surroundings of Ostrovica. Fort Saint John and Fort Saint Michael, two fortresses, are also located there.

Landscape and Trails

Visibaba, a mountain in the surroundings of Ostrovica, is located near the town. Orljak is another mountain in the wider regional area. Skradinski buk and Slapovi Krke, two waterfalls, are also located there.

Mačkov kamen is a point along a hiking trail and also a viewpoint overlooking Ravni kotari, Lake Vrana, the Šibenik Archipelago, as well as Ostrovica and Lišane. The Otres stream flows through the field.

Geographical Location

The Zadar–Benkovac–Kistanje–Knin road and the Zadar–Knin railway line run through the municipality of Lišane Ostrovičke.
