Mali Iž: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

A branch collection of cultural and historical artefacts is located in the hamlet of Knež. Founded in 1978, it covers the cultural history of the island of Iž from prehistory to the present day and focuses in particular on the suffering of the inhabitants of Mali Iž during the Second World War under the Italian Fascist occupiers.

Culture and history

The Church of St. Mary in Mali Iž is listed as an individual cultural asset and a sacred building under the designation Z-1562. The historic centre of Makovac is classified as a rural-urban heritage unit. The parish church of the Assumption of Mary and the Chapel of St. Anne are also classified as architectural monuments. The Canegietti family manor house is likewise classified as an architectural monument.

Gračišće is classified as an archaeological area or archaeological site. In Knež, Mali Iž, there is also a monument to fallen fighters and victims of fascist terror, which is classified as a memorial complex.

Routes and connections

Jadrolinija catamaran line 9405 connects Zadar via Mali Iž and Veli Iž with Mala Rava and Rava. The Vodnjak Trail runs from Mali Iž to Veli Iž and is considered a challenging route on Mali Iž for exploring the island's natural landscape. It passes through olive groves enclosed by dry-stone walls.
