Culture and History

The cultural heritage of Slivnica includes the parish church of Sv. Kuzme i Damjana and three archaeological sites: Gradina at Bokulja Bay in the direction of Jovići, Miolovića gradina south of Gradina near Bokulja, with dry-stone walls made of unworked limestone, and Lergova gradina, with remains of dry-stone houses.

The present-day parish church of Sv. Kuzme i Damjana in Slivnica was expanded in 1845 on the foundations of an earlier church. Slivnica has been mentioned in written documents since 1301.

Slivnica was one of the oldest settlements in the Novigrad District.

During the Venetian–Ottoman Wars, particularly in the 16th century, Slivnica was home to an important Venetian stronghold on the border with the Ottoman territories.

Those wishing to combine Slivnica with Bokulja and its historical sites may be planning to rent a holiday apartment.

Beach

Bokulja Beach is located in Slivnica. Smooth, small pebbles extend far into the sea there. Parking spaces are available along the road to the beach.

Nature and Water

The mirila of Slivnica are funerary memorial markers made of stone. They are located at the so-called Cemetery of Souls by the lokva opposite the parish church of Sv. Kuzme i Damjana.

During Roman rule, the fortification on Lergova gradina monitored the Velebit Channel, the settlements on both sides of the channel, and large parts of Ravni kotari, even as far as Vrana. The lokva in Slivnica never dries up.

Festivals and Roads

A Mass was celebrated at the festival held in Slivnica on 27 September 2024 in honor of the parish patron saints, Sv. Kuzme i Damjana.

The local road LC63058 is listed in the road register as connecting LC63028 with Slivnica; LC63028 is listed there as the connection between Vinjerac and the DC8.
