Cycling routes, waterscapes and historic sites make the Municipality of Pakoštane a destination you can explore at different paces. In addition, the Put Crkvina walking route leads from the Vrana Field to the sea, while Vrgada adds an island without cars to the mix. Routes of Different Lengths

The 9 km Pakoštane–Drage–Čelinka MTB route starts in front of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Pakoštane’s main square. It runs along the sea through Drage and Čelinka to Lake Vrana, then returns to Pakoštane through olive groves and pine trees. The route is rated easy in terms of physical effort and moderately difficult technically. The two ratings distinguish physical effort from technical difficulty.

The 40.4 km Pakoštane–Prosika–Crkvine–Maškovića Han trekking route starts in front of the main church in Pakoštane. It runs through Vransko jezero Nature Park, Prosika, Crkvine and Maškovića Han before returning to the main square. The difference in length compared with the MTB route is a practical planning guide: one route is 9 km long, the other 40.4 km. Both start in Pakoštane, but offer different distances and routes. If you want one of these routes to shape your stay, you can take Pakoštane as a shared starting point when looking for accommodation.

Between Lake, Sea and Island Views

The Put Crkvina walking route follows the old path from the fertile Vrana Field to the sea, connecting the lake and sea as two waterscapes. Along the route, the ruins of the medieval Church of St. Mary stand at the Crkvine site. The landscape and historic traces are part of the same route.

The Čelinka viewpoint above Drage offers views of Lake Vrana, the islands of the Pakoštane archipelago and the Kornati Islands. Vrgada adds an island perspective: it is half an hour by boat from Pakoštane and has no cars. Crossing times may vary depending on operations, so check before planning your trip. From viewpoints on Vrgada, you can look out over the sea and 13 surrounding islets. This lets you include different landscape impressions in your holiday plans, from mainland tours to viewpoints on the island.

Church History in Pakoštane and Vrana

In Pakoštane itself stands the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was built in 1906 and contains remains of the 16th-century Church of St. Michael. Two distinct periods can therefore be identified in one building: the construction of the parish church and the older church remains.

In the wider region, in Vrana, Maškovića Han is an individually protected cultural asset of national importance. The complex houses a museum devoted to various objects from Vrana and Pakoštane and their surroundings. This offers another cultural and historical point of interest beyond the church in Pakoštane.
