Coast and Beaches

Punta Beach is a pebble beach on the eastern edge of Bibinje, next to D-Marin Marina Dalmacija. Punta Rožica is Bibinje’s main beach and is located in Staro selo. The pebble beach has concrete sunbathing areas, showers and changing rooms.

Volleyball is played daily on Punta, Punta Rožica and Lipauska beaches. There is also a restaurant, a café and beach volleyball courts near Punta Beach, where tournaments are held. Lipauska Beach has a sandy seabed that attracts numerous visitors and locals. Šulterova vala is considered a beach popular with the youngest swimmers.

Cycling

The Bibinje Bike Adventure is a 27-kilometre cycling route with an elevation gain of 290 metres and encompasses the centre of Bibinje and its hinterland. The route includes around ten points of interest, including several significant churches, the sites of old wells and a panoramic viewpoint.

Culture and History

Bibinje’s protected cultural heritage includes the settlement’s cultural and historical ensemble. The Church of St John the Baptist stands in the centre of the Bibinje peninsula, in the heart of the historic old town. It houses a collection of sacred objects from the 15th century and is regarded as a valuable cultural monument of Bibinje’s culture, as well as Bibinje’s first church and the town’s first source of Christianity.

The Church of St Roch preserves several historical references: its oldest surviving altar dates from 1680, while the main altar was created by Michiel Coste in 1768. The church was first mentioned in 1673, when it was rebuilt after the Great Turkish Attack.

The Church of the Martyrdom of St John the Baptist is a single-nave Romanesque church with a semicircular apse. It lies south of Bibinje on Cape Punta. The locality of Petrina is named after the small Church of St Peter dating from the 8th century.

The remains of the Roman Biba-Jader aqueduct stand in the Lonići area. They date from the late 1st or early 2nd century, during the reign of Emperor Trajan. The aqueduct was part of a 40-kilometre water pipeline from Vrana to Zadar.

Tradition and Cuisine

Raspivano Bibinje has been held since 1977 and is considered the oldest and best-known klapa event in Zadar County. At the traditional gastronomic event Bibinjski kogo, visitors can watch the preparation of an authentic Bibinje dish made from black-coloured rolled noodles with squid ink, manestrun, and taste it.

Numerous restaurants and konobas between the Taline promenade and Trg Sri sela offer local specialities: fish, mussels, seafood, grilled meat, roast lamb, as well as kroštule and fritule. Bibinje is also home to a diving club called Sv. Roko.
