Župa: Holiday Apartments and Homes

Župa is one of only three villages on the northern side of Biokovo that are connected with shepherds’ mountain settlements. This reflects the historical pastoral landscape of the mountain range. Those who have chosen Župa as their destination may want to rent a holiday apartment.

Hiking

A Biokovo hiking route from Župa/Roglići via Čulija, Sutvid and Sv. Rok takes approximately three and a half hours and is considered moderately difficult.

Culture

Župa is home to the Posjetiteljski centar “Akademik Josip Roglić”, which opened in October 2022 in a former public school building. Individual visitors can visit the centre during the seasonal opening hours; outside the season, visits are possible by appointment.

The Church of Saint John the Baptist, with its archaeological site in Župa, is listed as an individual protected cultural asset under registration number Z-5534. The church was built in 1600 and rebuilt in 1906 after it had been destroyed. Inside are nine stained-glass windows by Josip Botteri Dini depicting the central mysteries of the faith and the patron saints.

Near Takalo in Župa is a prehistoric hillfort designated as an archaeological site.

In the surrounding area, near Čulija, is the Mountain House Academician Josip Roglić. It is a reconstructed former stable owned by the Roglić family from Župa. The mountain house opened in 2006 on the occasion of Josip Roglić’s 100th birthday.

The surrounding area of Župa is home to Gradska Spila, Draž Brdo, Manastirina, Nogata Pećina and Sutvid. Gradska spila is located approximately 200 metres west of the centre of Župa, in the direction of the Biokovo mountain range. The area around Župa also includes Sveti Ante, Sveti Ilija, Sveti Stipan and Sveta Marija.
