Katuni is included in several official thematic municipal hiking trails. These include trails through Katuni as well as a route connecting Vlake, Mandušića Kula, Mandušići and UBDM.

Culture and History

In Vlake, the intersection of two Roman roads has been preserved; the stone wheel ruts are approximately 1.4 metres apart. In the southern part of Vlake is Kulina, a prehistoric fortification with a preserved rampart and traces of its use in the Middle Ages and the early modern period.

Katuni’s religious history includes two parish churches. The old parish church, “Church of the Assumption”, was restored in 1722. It contains a large painting of the Last Judgment created by Filip Naldi in 1759, as well as a stone rosette made on the island of Brač. The new parish church, “Mary, Mediatrix of All Graces”, was completed and consecrated in 1970. Behind the main altar hangs a mosaic by Josip Botteri Dini measuring more than 100 square metres.

Nature and Regional Context

Katuni–Prpuša is home to a 70-hectare organic Marasca cherry plantation with approximately 20,000 trees. The area surrounding Katuni includes Visočica, Golo Brdo, Grečica, Sidača, Sveti Luka and Sveti Stjepan. In the wider regional surroundings of Katuni are Gospa Lurdska and Sveti Nikola.

Local Cuisine

Marasca cherries from Katuni–Prpuša are used for liqueurs, spirits, vitamin syrups, juices, jams, as well as frozen or dried fruit. In Šestanovac and the wider Dalmatian Zagora, spit-roasted lamb, veal prepared under a peka and homemade hearth bread are part of the culinary traditions.
