Geographical setting
Krivodol is considered a diagonally running valley protected to the north by Mount Šeminovac and to the southwest by Strana Hill. The settlement comprises six named hamlets: Bašići, Turići, Vrljičci, Lapende, Gornji Ujevići and Donji Ujevići.
Culture and history
The Ujević family house in Krivodol was the birthplace of Ivan Ujević, the father of the poet Tin Ujević. Tin Ujević visited the family house as early as his childhood and lived there during his school years in Imotski, as well as during his “hundred days in Imotski and Krivodol”. His youngest sister Klara-Tina was also born in the Krivodol family house.
The first school in Krivodol opened on 20 February 1906 in a private house in Gornji Ujevići. Krivodol belonged to a parish founded in 1747 that was long called the “Parish of Poljica and Krivodol”. A document dated 15 February 1686 describes Poljica and Krivodol as a significant Christian community. During his stays in Krivodol, Tin Ujević spent time with the Ujević family at St. Michael’s Square.
The hamlet of Lapende in southern Krivodol is regarded as a place with well-preserved traditional residential and agricultural architecture arranged around a central village meeting place.
Trails and events
On the T7 Krivodol–Đirada route, Đirada is associated with Tin Ujević listening to his echo as he returned from Turići. Visitors to the Đirada burial mound are invited to add a stone as a sign of respect. Remains of Roman roads have been preserved along some sections of the T6A Krivodol–Turići trail.
The Ujević Association organises creative workshops for children. The Ujević Cultural and Artistic Association in Krivodol organises cultural and entertainment events in summer.
