Culture and History
The Old Town of the Zrinskis preserves a Baroque layout with two courtyards, built on the site of a medieval castle. The old town can be visited during summer cultural events and is listed among the national cultural heritage sites.
The Nova Kraljevica Castle was built as a magnificent residential palace for the noble Zrinski and Frankopan families. Petar Zrinski began construction in 1651. Today, the castle in Kraljevica serves as a cultural centre and event venue.
The Mali Museum of Fishing and Shipbuilding Kraljevica displays 30 ship models as well as a collection of fishing equipment. The Kraljevica shipyard is considered the first shipyard in the Rijeka area and an important monument to the region's maritime culture.
The Church of Saint Nicholas is known for its altarpiece of Saint Nicholas; the building previously served as a salt warehouse.
At Cape Oštro stands the Cape Oštro Lighthouse. It was built during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and first showed its light on 18 August 1872. The lighthouse on Oštro is protected as cultural heritage.
The local traditions include the mask customs of Kraljevica, which have been maintained since 1984 and take place annually from January to March. Mikuljna, the Feast of Saint Nicholas in Kraljevica, runs from the end of November to mid-December and includes pilgrimages by sailors and divers.
Nature, Trails, and Water
The Our Landscape hiking trail is an 11-kilometre marked circular route. It begins at Nova Kraljevica Castle, leads partly through the forest, and partly runs along the sea.
The Oštro Peninsula is a wooded peninsula in Kraljevica used for swimming and recreation. Oštro Beach combines pebble, concrete, and sand.
Carovo Bay is located near Nova Kraljevica Castle; its beaches are easily accessible to tourists and locals.
Boat rentals are available in Grabrova Bay and Črišnjeva Bay. Near Oštro, an underwater statue of Saint Nicholas has been a destination for an annual pilgrimage by divers since 2008.
