Jurandvor: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In St. Lucy’s Church in Jurandvor, the Baška Tablet was originally a partition inscription separating the monks’ choir from the nave. It was found in the same church in 1851. A life-size replica is now displayed at the tablet’s original location. The original has been housed in the atrium of the Palace of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts since 1934.

Culture and History

St. Lucy’s Church was built around the turn of the 11th and 12th centuries on the remains of an early Christian basilica. The St. Lucy’s Abbey complex includes the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary and a restored monastic residential building. The remains surrounding the church were incorporated into an archaeological park in 2000.

At the entrance to Jurandvor stands a sculpture of the Glagolitic letter L; it is dedicated to Saint Lucy. The sculpture is 4.45 metres high and weighs 20 tonnes.

Cross Church has a Romanesque bell tower on its façade. Masses are regularly celebrated there on Sundays and public holidays. Local worshippers continue to sing in the manner used at Glagolitic masses.

Hiking

The “Baška Tablet–Zakam” hiking route begins in Jurandvor and climbs through a pine forest to Zakam. In the surrounding area, the Zakam route reaches a viewpoint overlooking Baška, St. John’s Church and the islet of Prvić.

The Baška Glagolitic Trail also runs through the Baška landscape. The trail is marked by 35 stone sculptures representing the letters of the Croatian Glagolitic alphabet.
