Cavtat is located on the Rat Peninsula around a sheltered, accessible bay, together with the Sustjepan Peninsula. The ancient settlement was the Roman colony of Epidaurus and was also historically known as Ragusa Vecchia. During the Republic of Dubrovnik, Cavtat was the republic’s second most important seaport after Dubrovnik, as well as a place of trade and administration.
Culture and History
Kuća Bukovac opened to the public in 2004. Its permanent exhibition presents works from all periods of Vlaho Bukovac’s artistic oeuvre. At the Baltazar Bogišić Collection, visitors can view the permanent exhibition “Raznolikosti Bogišićeve ostavštine”.
The Baltazar Bogišić Collection in Cavtat comprises more than 28,000 museum and library objects as well as Bogišić’s personal archive. The Franciscan Church of Gospe od Snijega in Cavtat has an interior featuring sculptures, paintings, metalwork and textiles. The parish church of St Nicholas in Cavtat was built in the 15th century.
The Račić Family Mausoleum in Cavtat was Ivan Meštrović’s first completed work and combines architecture with sculpture. At the 1925 Paris Exhibition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts, the mausoleum received the Grand Prix.

Location and Transport
Dubrovnik Airport is located in Čilipi, just 5 km from Cavtat; a taxi service is available for local transport to Cavtat. Bus route 10 connects Dubrovnik and Cavtat and runs every 30 minutes according to the timetable.
Active Travel
Diving is possible around Cavtat and the nearby islands of Mrkan, Bobara and Supetar. There are ancient archaeological sites, underwater walls, caves and shipwrecks there. A unique shell collection in Cavtat offers visitors a half-hour guided tour featuring more than 2,500 specimens from seas and oceans around the world.
The Cavtat–Močići–Čilipi hiking trail is 8 kilometres long and starts at the Church of Saint George (Đurđa) near Mečajac. Along the cliffs of Konavle, there are turn-offs leading to bathing spots. The trail is considered suitable for recreational hikers because most of its route runs at approximately the same elevation.
The Cavtat–Močići–Čilipi cycling route is 9.5 kilometres long and starts at Cavtat bus station. It combines paved and gravel sections and is suitable for trekking bikes and mountain bikes. The 26-kilometre Cavtat–Zvekovica–Miljasi circular route also starts at Cavtat bus station.
