Hiking trails through the municipality

“Walking Paths of Župa dubrovačka” is a 50-kilometer network of themed hiking trails throughout the municipality. The Connecting Route links Župa dubrovačka with the Croatian Long Distance Trail toward Srđ above Dubrovnik and with the Heart of Konavle Trail. This provides both trails through the municipality and a connection to other named routes for orientation. Check local conditions before setting out.

Beaches, coves and features of the area

Župa dubrovačka is said to have 22 beaches for sunbathing and swimming. This number may change if beaches are reclassified. Mlini offers a more specific picture of the area: it has gently sloping pebble beaches, sheltered coves, flower gardens and promenades. Duboka Ljuta is a cove in the northeastern part of Župa Bay with a pebble beach. These different coastal features can help you compare descriptions of places based on whether you are more interested in beaches and promenades or in a particular cove.

Mills, churches and archaeological traces

Mlini was once a historic center of milling; one of the former mills is well preserved. The Church of Sv. Ilara also tells a story of a long history: it is mentioned in the Dubrovnik Statute of 1272 and was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1683. In Soline, the Church of Sv. Nikole has a Gothic phase dating from the 14th and 15th centuries, as well as an extension from the 18th century.

Other churches add their own distinctive features to the landscape. Built in the 16th century, the Church of Sv. Petra stands on Trapita Hill and offers a view over Župa Bay. Above Plat is the medieval votive chapel of Sv. Ivana, first mentioned in 1366. These different construction periods give culture enthusiasts concrete reasons to choose places not only for their coast, but also for their historic landmarks.

Archaeological sites are also part of the municipality’s story. Goričina, between Kupari and Srebreno, was once a settlement and harbor; fragments of Roman amphorae, pottery and coins have been found there. Finds of amphorae, urns and Roman emperors’ coins in Srebreno attest to the area’s historical continuity. Spiona is considered the oldest archaeological site in Plat and preserves traces of the Illyrians and Romans. Kupari is also of interest for the history of tourism: it is considered the oldest tourist resort in Župa, where the first hotel was built in 1920.

Tradition and guided discoveries

KUD Marko Marojica preserves the cultural heritage and Župa dances, and performs folk dances in traditional Župa costumes. This work has been underway since 1976. Another way to explore regional history is the guided tour “Hidden Stories of Mlini”: it visits the ruins of the Bettera summer house and covers the cultural and regional history of Mlini and Župa dubrovačka. If you plan to take the tour in 2026, check the dates in advance.

Buggy tours through the rural part of Župa dubrovačka are recommended as an adventure activity; check current providers and availability separately. A zipline activity is described as being 175 meters high and offering views of Dubrovnik’s Old Town.
