History

In the wider surroundings of Luka Vrbovečka, Stari Grad Vrbovec was first mentioned in 1528. After the complex and its farm buildings were destroyed during the peasant revolt of 1755, only one tower remained; it is now called Petar Zrinski's Tower.

Traditions

In the wider surroundings of Luka Vrbovečka, the event “Kaj su jeli naši stari” takes place annually over a weekend at the end of August or the beginning of September. The festival presents traditional dishes and aspects of former local life in the Vrbovec area. The last weekend in August is also specified as a concrete date. The 2023 edition marked the 42nd year of the event; dishes were served according to recipes described as intangible cultural heritage of the Vrbovec region.
