The Žumberački pil is a Baroque wayside shrine about two and a half meters high, with four niches depicting the four Evangelists in frescoes. Due to its numerous historical functions and symbolic significance, it is of considerable cultural and historical value.

Culture

The Church of St. Nicholas in Žumberak is a medieval building with Gothic elements and later Baroque furnishings. It was restored in the mid-17th century and is registered as protected cultural heritage under the designation Z-1887. The protected monument area Z-1887 includes a parish house.

History

Novi grad Žumberak was built as the seat of a Uskok captain and commander of this part of the Military Frontier and was destroyed by fire in 1793. Today, earth-covered ruins remain at the historic site of Novi grad Žumberak.
