The Vuka, the Canal and the Pannonian Plain

Waterways shape the geographical character of the municipality: the Vuka flows through the municipality of Trpinja for 8 km. The Bobotski Canal stretches for 20 km through the area. Each of these distances refers to the course within the municipality. Trpinja is part of the typical Pannonian Plain and has a temperate continental climate. The Natura 2000 site HR2001045 Trpinja is part of the area’s nature conservation. It covers 5.1567 ha and is designated as a protected area for species and habitat types. Another link between landscape and history is the Pašnjak pod selom archaeological site in Bršadin: it lies south of the village centre in the Vuka riverbed and is designated as an immovable cultural asset. Together, these places show different facets of the municipality—a protected area designated for nature conservation and an archaeological site with a specific location.

Sacred Buildings and Cultural History

In Bobota stands the Crkva Velikomučenika Georgija, built in 1789 and designated as an immovable cultural asset. In Trpinja, the Crkva Vaznesenja Gospodnjeg was built in 1755 in the late Baroque style. The single-nave building has a semicircular apse; on the main façade, the bell tower projects in the form of a risalit. This allows two different places and building histories to be considered when planning a trip, without presenting them as a single route for a joint visit.

Traditions and Events

One specific example from Bobota is the Međunarodni Vidovdanski sabor. Since 1981, the three-day Međunarodni Vidovdanski sabor was held annually in June by the cultural and artistic association “Đoko Patković”. The programme also included the preparation of traditional dishes. Since 2013, an exhibition of handicrafts and antiques has been held annually in Bobota, Trpinja and Bršadin. It included demonstration workshops for all exhibition visitors, as well as presentations of old tools and crafts. These themes offer different perspectives on culture: shared customs and food, as well as craftwork and historical implements.

Other types of events included folk dance, theatre and music. “Đeram – deca čuvari tradicije” has been held annually in Trpinja and Bršadin since 2016. The international folklore event included programme exchanges with groups from neighbouring countries and at least one guest performance each year. The Međunarodni susreti dramskih amatera – MESDAM in Pačetin was a theatre event held annually since 2003 by the cultural and artistic association “Branko Radičević”. In Bršadin, the “Letnji koncert povodom završetka radne sezone” featured a selection of guest groups from the region, abroad and the local community, alongside the host. The music event, held annually since 2008, was described as internationally significant for the municipality.
