Part of the protected significant landscape of Petrova Gora lies within the municipality of Topusko. It is protected because of its forest habitat and landscape-historical values.
Landscape and Nature
In the centre of Topusko lies Nikolino brdo, a wooded hill with an elevation of 184 metres.
Culture and History
Blatne or Crijetne Kupke were named after the thermal mud and peat used for treatments. The Opatovina portal preserves the only surviving Gothic church façade of the Cistercian abbey of Topusko; it is 23 metres high.
Kamena Spomenica preserves names, initials, years and other markings carved into the living rock on Babićev brijeg. Opatovina Park contains the remains of an archaeological monument associated with the Gothic entrance portal of the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Nikolino brdo also preserves stone remains and depressions associated with a fortified town attributed to King Andrew II. The cultural and historical ensemble of Topusko is classified as protected cultural heritage under the designation Z-4136.
Trails and Events
An easy 5.3-kilometre urban circular walking trail begins at Top-Terme. It passes English Park, Jupiter's Altar, Opatovina Park, the Gothic portal, Mollinary Spring, and the Catholic and Orthodox churches.
According to the destination plan, the Topusko–Ponikvari–Topusko cycling route is 6.7 kilometres long and takes less than an hour. The Biciklijada “Putevima bana Jelačića” cycling event takes place annually in the Topusko area.
Thermal Water and Cuisine
The Top-Terme pool complex comprises five thermal-water pools of varying depths and temperatures. Lječilište Topusko uses thermal water from three main springs and several smaller springs to treat injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system, nervous system and locomotor system.
Restaurants from Topusko took part in a programme featuring traditional Croatian flavours. As part of this programme, special menus with at least three courses and a glass of a local beverage were offered.
