Culture and Traditions
The Parish Church of St Lawrence in Petrinja was built in 1780 and rebuilt in 1995. It is considered a noteworthy example of sacred architecture at the transition from Baroque to Classicism and has historical and memorial value.
The Vinogradarsko-voćarska School is one of the oldest schools in Croatia and has historical, cultural and educational value.
Petrinjski Betlemaši remains a protected custom of intangible cultural heritage and is presented on Christmas Eve in Gajeva Street and the surrounding streets in Petrinja.
The Baroque Palace in Petrinja is considered a valuable example of 18th-century Baroque residential architecture in continental Croatia. The Stucka vessel is considered an original souvenir from Petrinja and is connected with the city's pottery tradition dating from the 18th century.
Nature
Hrastovačka Gora occupies most of the City of Petrinja and reaches 415 metres at Cepeliš above Hrastovica. Almost the entire Hrastovačka Gora is covered by beech and chestnut forests; numerous small springs lie on its wooded slopes.
The Petrinjčica and its basin are home to 20 fish species, including eight endangered and protected species, as well as fossil sites dating from the Mesozoic.
Trails and Activities
The Petrinja Promenade ends at the Strossmayer Promenade, a protected architectural park with St Lawrence Church and a fountain.
Quad excursions from Petrinja include guided rides and equipment; the tours explore the Kupa and Hrastovačka Gora.
Pilgrimage Route
The first day of the Camino Banovina pilgrimage ends at the Strossmayer Promenade in the centre of Petrinja, by the Parish Church of St Lawrence.
