Municipality of Donji Lapac: Water, Cycling Routes and Architectural History

The Una, Waterfalls and Plješevica

The Una offers opportunities for sport fishing and is rich in native and American rainbow trout. The Bijeli Potoci–Kamensko area lies in the central part of the Plješevica massif at an elevation of about 900 to 1,300 metres. The Kamensko plateau in the Plješevica mountains offers opportunities for mountain hiking and excursions. If you enjoy walking, you can set this option alongside the Una’s water and fishing attractions. Getting Around by Bike

Two routes are described for mountain biking. MTB route MTB 01 is 29.5 kilometres long and starts and ends in Donji Lapac. MTB route MTB 03 runs from Donji Lapac to Ozeblin and returns to Donji Lapac via Manita draga. For the first route, the length and starting and ending points are the key details; the second route is traced by the sequence Ozeblin–Manita draga. You can compare the tours using different details: their length or the named places along the route. Mountain hiking on the Kamensko plateau is another option if you do not want to plan your excursions exclusively around cycling.

Churches and Architectural History

The Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God in Lički Doljani was built in 1799; its bell tower was added in 1912. In Nebljusi, the Church of St. Elias dates from 1795. It was restored in 1964 and 2003. The Parish Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Boričevac was built in 1844, designated a cultural monument of religious heritage, and destroyed during the Second World War. Its history is therefore explicitly shaped by this historical turning point as well.

In the centre of Donji Lapac, the old Hotel Ozeblin was built in 1912. It is considered a rare, fully preserved building in the Secessionist style in Lika. The year 1912 appears in two different building histories: it marks both the addition of the bell tower in Lički Doljani and the construction of the building in Donji Lapac. Together with the older churches and the restoration dates in Nebljusi, this provides a timeline of several of the municipality’s notable buildings.

Getting Here and Choosing a Holiday Focus

State road D218 runs from Doljani via Donji Lapac to the Užljebić border crossing into Bosnia and Herzegovina. State road D506 connects Bjelopolje with Donji Lapac. These road connections provide a reference for planning your journey; check road conditions before setting off.
