Culture

The parish church on the main square is considered to be a 12th-century building; it preserves stone material from an older Gothic structure. Chapels, the tower and the choir gallery were added during extensive renovation in the 18th century.

Sveti Križ Začretje Castle is an imposing late Baroque aristocratic residence whose present form dates from the mid-18th century. The Žitnica Museum is housed in a building erected in 1796, which was restored and opened to visitors in 2000. On the ground floor, it presents exhibitions by the Zvirek ethnographic group.

Visitors can also see a private local-history collection featuring edged and firearms, old documents, contracts, letters and photographs associated with Stjepan Jačmenica. The Rudi Stipković Gallery has been housed in the premises of a local association since 2010. A piano acquired for the Ivan Lovrenčić Gallery in 2002 made concerts there possible.
