Spiritual Life

The Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Veternica was built in 1744 in the Baroque style and contains a late Baroque altar dating from 1755. The Kaptol Manor and the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary are under preventive protection. The Veternica complex once had the appearance of a small fortified structure with a high wall and tower.

The Chapel of the Wounded Jesus is known locally as “Otac Bog” and contains an old stone-carved statue of the Wounded Jesus. It stands on the highest hill in the parish. When the chapel was blessed in 1847, a procession led from Veternički dvorac to it.

The Veternica spiritual centre offers a chapel, a Calvary for the Stations of the Cross and opportunities for quiet reflection, as well as facilities for spiritual retreats, including weekends of fasting, prayer and silence. St. Barbara’s Chapel in Novi Golubovec was built in 1972 as a chapel dedicated to the patron saint of miners.
