Culture and History

The present-day Church of Saint John the Baptist was built from 1847 to 1858 on the site of a chapel dating from the mid-17th century. Inside are the main altar of Saint John the Baptist and four additional altars.

Four traditional wayside crosses from the second half of the 19th century stand in the wider settlement area of Gornje Jesenje.

Visitors to Kestenijada can taste autumn produce and enjoy young must and wine for refreshment. The traditional chestnut event was scheduled for 12 October 2025 on the grounds of the cultural centre in Gornje Jesenje.
