A 14-metre-high lookout point, an exceptionally well-documented meteorite fall and cultural-historical landmarks give the Municipality of Hrašćina a distinctive character. The meteorite fall and memorial sites

The Hrašćina meteorite fell on 26 May 1751 in a field in the village of Domovec. It was the first fall of extraterrestrial matter in the world to be extensively and officially documented. The meteorite memorial in Domovec features a low obelisk with a life-size replica of the meteorite. The monument can be reached from the centre of Trgovišće via a paved, signposted road.

Another memorial in Domovec is the St. Mark roadside shrine. It was erected in 1647 as a memorial and token of gratitude for the Turks’ withdrawal from this area. Inside the Church of St. Nicholas in Hrašćina is a cycle of murals attributed to the assistants of Antun Lerchinger and the Zagreb painter Antun Archer. Kurija pl. Belošević offers a different kind of storytelling: visitors can hear the love story of the Belgian Princess Louise and her chosen partner, the Zagorje nobleman Geza pl. Matačić.

Views, trails and getting your bearings

Pipinićev put is an educational ecological trail through the Hrašćina area. It is named after Branko Pipinić, a teacher and founder of the local hiking club. The Piramida lookout point is on Pipinićev put above Trgovišće; from there, the view takes in the local horizon and the wider Hrvatsko Zagorje, reaching as far as the Alps on a clear day.

The railway line also provides a practical geographical reference: Hrašćina-Trgovišće station is on the Zagreb–Varaždin line, between Konjščina and Budinščina.
