Legrad: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Legrad is home to the Church of the Holy Trinity, which was built between 1769 and 1784. It is a protected cultural monument; its organs and furnishings are also protected. Its late Baroque appearance earned it the local nickname “Cathedral of Podravina”.

Culture

The Legradska hiža ethnographic collection comprises several hundred catalogued exhibits depicting life in Legrad in earlier times. The School Museum Legrad is housed in the old school building, where former teaching materials, books and old records are displayed. Legrad’s fire brigade memorial collection documents the volunteer fire brigade founded in 1884. It includes a flag from 1899, considered one of the oldest surviving fire brigade flags in Croatia.

The Marija Bango Memorial Room presents the life and work of the local writer and educator and was opened to the public on 26 January 2018. The Graffiti Ranch street art project began in 2012. Artists’ gatherings transformed buildings and fences into surfaces featuring colourful works of art.

Nature

Nearby, northeast of Legrad, lies the confluence of the Mura and Drava rivers. The special ornithological reserve Veliki Pažut is also located in this area, within the Mura–Drava Regional Park and the Croatian ecological network. Halasz Csarda is an excursion site at the confluence and has the SIP beach.

Near Halasz Csarda, there are swings, seesaws and a volleyball court set up by Legrad’s ecological association. A natural heritage project for Legrad also envisaged the construction of two viewing platforms at Šoderica, as well as the acquisition of ten electric bicycles and a hybrid vehicle for transporting visitors.

Cycling

The Drava Route cycle path connects Legrad with Pitomača along the Drava and leads to Halasz Csarda. The Drava Bike route passes through Legrad and ends at the confluence of the Mura and Drava rivers near Legrad.

Events

The “Ljeto na Šoderici” programme has been held regularly at Šoderica since 2009. It includes angling competitions, eco canoeing, concerts and theatre. The SHOWderica programme comprises beach volleyball tournaments, water games, environmental workshops and an open-air cinema. The site also features an adventure park and a paintball area.

History

Before 1710, Legrad was connected to Međimurje. A change in the course of the Drava brought the town into the Podravina region.
