History and Culture

The fortification developed in several construction phases, including a lower palace from the 16th century and a central defensive complex that connects newer sections with older parts. Well-preserved circular Gothic staircases linking the visible levels have survived. Stari grad Veliki Kalnik is listed in the Cultural Heritage Register under number Z-4068.

During its renovation in the early 16th century, St Brcko became a parish church in 1509. During this phase, the church also received a massive bell tower with a defensive function.
